Having trusted Mowbray to complete a Turnkey Mezzanine Floor and office project to create a sales office, director’s office and boardroom in 2017, they turned to the company again when they wanted to refurbish their staff toilets and develop an office above.
Mowbray Sales Director (Northern Region) Mark Davison provided a design and solution to completely remodel and refurbish the toilets and ‘sit’ the office on top of existing blockwork and timber joists.
Critical to this was removing a current timber staircase and replacing it with a solid steel structure, changing its direction to allow access to the office and through access to the toilets, and ensuring it conformed with Building Regulations.
Key too, was keeping the staircase footprint to a minimum to avoid wasting valuable factory floor space.
With a tolerance of only 36mm to fit the general access staircase, Mark admitted: “I can’t deny, I had the odd sleepless night thinking about this. We had to get the height correct and the length of the staircase spot on to provide the walkthrough to the toilets at ground level and fit it in, as we were tight against a building column.
“It was tricky.”
And that’s where Mowbray’s experience and expertise were paramount in finding the best solution.
Mowbray removed blockwork at ground level to open up the toilet area to provide three male cubicles, two urinals and fit a separate female toilet; additionally, they adjusted external drainage systems to enable waste to fall correctly into the main sewer.
Above they installed new flooring to create an upstairs office – with access – for three members of staff, and fitted it with air conditioning, a fresh air circulation system, and a small kitchen area complete with Zip Hot Tap.
The project was completed within the original timescale of four weeks and to the original budget.
